The district takes its name because of the many floods at each rising of the Seine. From the first the monks invested the places then it will be the Jewish community which will be followed by the aristocrats. That is why this quarter is so rich in history, architecture, museums and hotels.
About the Bastille, you have to visit this place especially by night ! It was built for people and it still is ! As soon as the night fall the Parisians meet in different places around the Place and dream all night looking at the "Colonne de Juillet".
