Saint Germain & Montparnasse

Eglise Saint Germain des Prés   Animated quarters of left bank, the districts of Saint Germain & Montparnasse were famous for their intellectual and artistic lives.
  Saint Germain made its great strides as from the IX century around one of the most famous bénédictine abbeys. Today, one strolls there for its artist side with its galleries, its bookshops and its coffee shops. In the abbey you will find the tombstone of Descartes there, mathematicien thinker. Two steps further and a few centuries later at the famous Café de Flore, you would have met lots of philosophers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir. All the intellectuals strolled in the district between "Les Deux magots" and la "Brasserie Lipp".
  As for the Montparnasse area, it was crowded by all the artists. Modigliani, Utrillo, Max Jacob, Apollinaire were there. All this beautiful world took place in the Bohemian district which attracted painters, poets from all the world. Ernest Hemingway, Marc Chagall, Henri Miller haunted this district even Lénine played chess at the famous "Closerie des Lilas".
